Mary and Jesus (pbut)

Allah SWT, in His Infinite Wisdom, selects certain individuals, appoints for them specific tasks, knowing that they alone are uniquely gifted, qualified, to carry them out. In this manner, does Allah SWT exalt His Messengers and Prophets (pbut,) as well as particular members of their families, whose personalities and characters mark them out for His Special Grace.

Thus, Mary, Mother of Jesus (pbut,) was chosen by Allah SWT to be the recipient of a tremendous miracle: chaste, pure and untouched by any evil thought, desire, or emotion, she alone was perfectly qualified to bear the Word of Allah SWT, which, when manifested, became Jesus, her son, as well as His Prophet and Messenger.

Chapter 3, Al-'Imran, The House of Imran, Verse 35
when a woman of (the House of) Imran prayed: 'O my Sustainer! Behold, to You do I vow (the child) that is in my womb, to be devoted to Your service. Accept it, then, from me: verily, You alone are All-Hearing, All-Knowing!'

It is in this way, that we learn how the as yet unknown, and unnamed child, was dedicated to Allah SWT, to serve Him exclusively. The sincerity and humility of this supplication reveals Mary's noble heritage - her Mother was pious and pure, as was her Father. This prayer also refutes any suggestion that Mary was of ignoble descent, or that her Parents were of questionable character.

Verse 36-37
But when she had given birth to the child, she said: 'O my Sustainer! Behold, I have given birth to a female' - the while Allah had been fully aware of what she would give birth to, and (fully aware) that no male child (she might have hoped for) could ever have been like this female - 'and I have named her Mary. And, verily, I seek Your protection for her and her offspring against Satan, the accursed.'
And so her Sustainer accepted her with goodly acceptance, and caused her to grow up in goodly growth, and placed her in the care of Zachariah.

Mary's immediate environment is clean of impurities, whilst her guardian is himself a Prophet of Allah SWT, who subsequently becomes the Father of another noble Prophet, John (pbut).

Verse 42
And Lo! The angels said: 'O Mary! Behold, Allah has elected you and made you pure, and raised you above all the women of the world.
O Mary! Remain truly devout to your Sustainer, and prostrate yourself in worship, and bow down with those who bow down (before Him).'

It is clear that Mary has been selected by Allah SWT on account of her piety and devotion to Him, He has also blessed Mary by raising her status far higher than any other woman -either before or since. She is as important in her own right, as she is being the Mother of Jesus. These Verses foreshadow the remarkable announcement, which follows soon after.
